I visited in Orange County with traheho a couple of weeks ago. We both remarked how little there was to do after sunset, and traheho lives calls OC his residence! On the drive back to Las Vegas, we both vowed not to engage in too much debauchery and to avoid going out to nightclubs. That Friday, we went to XS for an epic night. A night at XS seems to run about $6k. We went a week later for another great night. There was an embarrassing situation where one of the girls upchucked all over our table, with Victor Drai, the owner of the nightclub, looking on from the adjacent table.
I have also been playing some live $10-$20 NL at Bellagio, which is a welcome change of pace, although I struggle to put in the long hours that I once did in Atlantic City. I have attended several dinner parties at both Antonio's and durrrr's, and those are always entertaining. One of durrrr's parties was to host the World Series of Peggle, which is a popular XBox 360 game. The entry was $500, although I did not enter. The main living room has the feel of a game room, with board games everywhere, a billiards table, and four XBox 360 consoles and several TVs.
I have also been watching tons of Wimbledon tennis coverage. I offered a friend 16.5-1 odds that Andy Roddick would not win the tournament, so go Federer!
Latest movies seen: Auf der anderen Seite (2007); East of Eden (1955).

I run so bad with cops.
Three years ago, I documented an unwarranted police confrontation in http://lukekim.blogspot.com/2006/02/run-in-with-police.html. I have a clean criminal record. Two of my three traffic violations are extremely marginal: 74mph in 55mph zone; 44mph in 35mph zone; and 64mph in 55mph zone.
Last night, I parked my car and walked across the road. This small road was deserted with no traffic, and a 1-year-old infant would have been a huge favorite to crawl across it and back before any car approached. After I crossed the road in a couple of seconds and proceeded to walk along the sidewalk, a police vehicle turns on its flashing lights. I would have not had any idea that the action was directed toward me except for the fact that I was the only person in the vicinity.
As I turn toward the car, I have been conditioned by police officers to display my personal identification. As I reach into my jeans pocket, the cop in the passenger seat yells at me not to move an inch and to remove my hand from my pocket. Simultaneously, he pulls out his handgun, which terrifies me more than the police incident from three years ago. My heart is still rushing from having a loaded gun directed at me.
By the way, the policemen said they pulled me over for jaywalking because I crossed the deserted road in the middle, 15 feet from the corner crosswalk. Thankfully, they spared me a pedestrian violation ticket, as they sped off.
I have lived in Las Vegas nearly five years. I have zero traffic violations here, but as a pedestrian, I have been pulled over by a total of three cars and had one gun directed at me.

i have been hanging out with traheho and pokerkid585 for much of the week. tonight, we went to ballys poker room to meet up with friends. pokerkid585 and i had drinks at the video poker bar, where he hit 5 deuces to win $1000. alec can't drink due to his silly anti-drinking wager.
while driving to grand lux cafe, we had a discussion about girls, and pokerkid585 said he still thinks about a girl he met on a royal Caribbean cruise in the 8th grade. he said he tried to track her down but was unsuccessful due to knowing only her first name and that she lives in mexico city. he half-jokingly/half-seriously offered $1000 for information leading him to his fleeting long-lost love. i told both my friends that pokerkid585 would never find her. somehow, traheho and i made a sidebet where he paid me $50 on the spot, and i laid him 200-1 odds that he would not ever track her down. traheho now has $10,000 incentive to find her! i still like my chances. the girl with no last name has a common first name in the 10th largest city in the world. good luck traheho and pokerkid585. . .
latest movie seen: up (2009); Pushing Daisies: Season Two (2008-9).

Today, I jumped out of a perfectly good airplane, along with traheho, MagicNinja, and DaEvils. The experience was everything I expected. My friend described it best when he said, "Some people are under the illusion that the experience is like jumping onto a fluffy pillow. No, it's fucking crazy! It's more like stepping off a building!" I concur. All of us were tired, having averaged about three hours of sleep the night before, and I was nauseous from the latter part of the dive. I asked MagicNinja to drive my car back home, but I discovered that he does not how to drive!
The other night, Antonio discovered that I had not seen The Matrix movies. He was stunned, and I expressed similar astonishment that he had not seen The Lord of the Rings movies. We debated as to which was a more astonishing discovery. I argued that him not seeing the LOTR movies was more surprising simply because those movies grossed higher revenue at the box office. Later, good2cu walked in, and we related our debate to him. When I told him the basis for my conclusion, he disputed my fact, and a $500 wager resulted. He quickly ran to the computer and came back with a sad face, as he discovered that the Lord of the Rings trilogy grossed nearly twice as much as The Matrix trilogy. Ship it!
traheho likes to travel the world and had mentioned to me the idea of living in Italy with MagicNinja for several months. He also said he would have a boat. The image in my head was of them floating a little dinghy around Monte Carlo. The other night, I discovered that their actual insane intention was to buy a $100k boat in Florida and sail it across the Atlantic Ocean to Italy!! This resulted in heavy discussion that both traheho and MagicNinja would perish in the ocean in some unfortunate maritime tragedy. Many poker players, me included, said they would wager against their lives. We joked that bets would result in a win-win situation, either our friends would live or we would make money! Seriously, they intend not to have a crew. It would be just the two of them. Neither of them has any boating experience. For crying out loud, MagicNinja has no automobile experience, aside from being a passenger. I do not see how they expect to live. I cited the Titanic disaster. I also referenced the recent Air France disaster. If a storm could tear apart an international jet, it would wreak havoc upon two inexperienced poker players.

Yesterday, after good2cu busted in 23rd place for $71,858, I went with him to Bare pool party at Mirage. We spent 90 minutes there before we went home, where I took my first shower in two days. I went to dinner with Antonio and two friends at Circo at Bellagio.
Today, I watched the Nadal-Soderling French Open match, where Soderling played super impressively and won, which might have been the sports upset of the year. Although the match happened in the round of 16, Nadal was a -8000 favorite! I may also go watch traheho try to win the $40k WSOP event. With 9 players remaining, he has 9.8% of the chips, which means his money equity is about $729k. Although the prizes at this point range from $230k to $1891k, the prize equity range is much narrower, from $384k to $1005k for the chipleader.

i just returned from a 1am dinner at osaka with tsarrast, traheho, and good2cu. i might admit to feeling slightly inferior for being the only person at dinner not to have entered the $40,000 WSOP event, much less finishing in the money. since all three of my friends are still in, i will be rooting heavily for all of them to do well this weekend.
